It's raining in the Bay Area, supposedly one of the largest rainstorms we've had in 10 years... which means 1994.  Where were you in 1994?  I think I was working my first job out of college, warehouse distribution, throwing cases of books around, filling book orders on an assembly line, driving forklifts in the warehouse... *sigh* the good 'ole days.

Well in case you're weather-hampered and unable to go pumpkin-picking, here's a virtual option for those who want to "carve" a jack-o-lantern.

Wifi, Internet Cafe, Art

I don't hang out in cafes & work off of wi-fi often, but presently here @ Canvas with Ana trying to get some work done.  There's a lot of grad school  looking types here and out of 2 dozen tables in this corner, there are at least half with folks working off of laptops, not sure if wireless or not, mostly guys.  some folks talking off of cell phones, other tables just with folks hangin', readin' etc.   The tunes are pretty upbeat, the art work is in the rest of the cafe which is a relatively large space.  can't say business is slow as most of the table are filled and there's a sign that says Sat & Sun are busiest so table usage limited to 1.5 hrs.

Drink of choice: water.  Ana's having a soy steamer.  No outside food or drinks.

Weather: overcast, misty/foggy.

On another random note: someone described blogging as somewhat exhibitionistic.  That would be an interesting thot, esp for those that don't think they are... exhibitionists.  The other thot related to that... does that make lurkers... voyeuristic?  Or bloyeuristic?

From 10 THINGS to do over the WEEKEND (if I were in Chicago)

#2  "Just Married," an exhibit of 32 black-and-white photos of same-sex weddings, opens July 29 in the 2nd-floor private dining space at Rushmore restaurant, 1023 W. Lake St. In an unusual application of modern technology, the owners of San Francisco Exposure Gallery culled the images from 200 e-mail submissions of JPEG photo files from 40 national photojournalists and documentary photographers who documented 4,000-5,000 gay marriages during the course of one month. The show continues through Sept. 30 (free; 312-421-8845).

Speaking of photography, be sure to see Mary Ellen Mark's "Twins" and "Falkland Road: Prostitutes of Bombay" at Columbia College Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Photography through Oct. 5 (free; 312-663-5554; www.mocp.org).

#9   The 2004 Olympic Games in Athens start Aug. 13, so this might be a good weekend to take the family to "The Olympic Games: Then and Now" at the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center, 801 W. Adams St., through Nov. 14. You'll experience an interactive virtual exhibit called "The Ancient Games: A Walk Through Olympia," learn about the latest research "Excavating the History/Mystery of the 1904 Chicago Olympic Games" (originally scheduled for Chicago but transferred to St. Louis), see artwork by Euripides 'Rip' Kastaris, who created the official image for the Athens 2004 games as commissioned by the U.S. Olympic Committee and more ($5; 312-655-1234; www.hellenicmuseum.org).

Know any of these folks?  From 40 under 40
